Poor alignment of the feet and legs can have a remarkable effect on the body posture. The foot and lower limb perform thousands of steps every day. Sometimes this causes various aches and pains in the joints of the feet, ankles, knees, hips and lumbar spine. The foot, leg, hip and back muscles may become tender as they over work to try and help the abnormal motion that occurs with each step.
So-called 'growing pains' are a common problem in children and teenagers. These pains can often be linked with poor function of the foot and lower limb e.g. flat feet causes internal leg rotation causing squinting patellae, i.e. the knees point inwards instead of straight ahead.
Some common problems which can be treated by podiatrists include:

Insoles may be prescribed to help realign the foot and lower limb.
A range of insoles is available from temporary to 'off the shelf' to bespoke casted moulded foot orthoses.
The insoles help to re-time the foot position in the gait cycle to helping to relieve stress on the body’s joints and muscles.
Stretches and exercises may also be advised to help gain the best over all care plan for the patients.
